parents Jennifer Abcug and Sherri Stuart,

who are also both mental health professionals.

They will give a short presentation followed by Q&A (click below here for details).

Dear Families,

We are mourning with Mr. Donald (Scott) McElveen's family. As our way to pay respect, and to show that Mr. McElveen will be greatly missed by our community, we would like to share the letter below from our Japanese teacher, Chiaki Rochkind. If you would be so inclined, there is a link for donations to the National Kidney Foundation in Mr. McElveen's honor.

Tonight's PA Meeting and Elections!

POSTPONED!

Due to technical difficulties, tonights meetings are postponed.

A new date will be announced shortly.

Dear LaGuardia Families:

We hope your children had a wonderful first day back at school. Now it's your turn to be welcomed back into the building! Please join us in the Little Flower Theater (or on Zoom by clicking here to pre-register) for our first General PA Meeting TONIGHT at 6 PM. Studios will hold their meetings at 7 PM: Art in 7th floor cafeteria; Dance in the Little Flower Theater; Drama in rooms G 25 & G17; Music in room 457 and Theater Tech (location will be announced at the General Meeting).

Our first agenda item is the election of officers to the PA Executive Board and a Freshman Representative to the School Leadership Team (please scroll down for information about the positions).

For our guests attending in person, please follow these steps:

  • Complete the daily health screening form and have it readily available to show before entering the building
  • Bring proof of vaccination
  • A valid ID
  • Your child's OSIS number (you can find this on either a report card or by clicking on myschools.nyc or mystudent.nyc.gov and logging into your account)
  • Wear a mask
  • Please try to arrive by 5:30 PM so we can ensure the validation process moves quickly and the meeting can begin promptly at 6 PM.

For those who plan to attend remotely, the meeting will be live-streamed (at the mercy of the school's wifi capabilities), so you will not be able to participate in the election due to DOE guidelines.

You can find the agenda for the meeting here. The PA's budget can be viewed here.

We look forward to seeing you--and let's see some hands raised to self-nominate for a position!

Welcome Back!

September 12, 2021

Dear LaGuardia Families:

We are looking forward to welcoming all of our children back to school on Monday, September 13, with an extra special greeting (there is a little surprise awaiting them when they arrive and a sweet treat at the end of the day...sshhh)!

Due to the COVID variant restrictions and other safety concerns and the DOE/school administration protocols this will be a simple and fun way to welcome the kids in the morning and in the afternoon (wrap by 5 PM). Rest assured your child/children will feel welcomed and surrounded by a school community that deeply cares about them.

Thanks to ALL our PA volunteers who have helped to make this first day “back to school” possible on top of getting their child/children ready for the new academic year.

Dear Incoming LaGuardia Families

Dear Incoming LaGuardia Families

Congratulations! We know how anxious you are to hear from the school, but the administration has been dealing with some technical issues. To date, LaGuardia does  NOT have the updated information it needs to send to  families and students.  The school administration will continue to use the website (laguardiahs.org) as a vehicle to communicate to families.

The DOE is working on resolving these technical issues. Once they have resolved the matter, LaGuardia will reach out to both parents and artist-scholars.

In the meantime, have a wonderful summer!

Rising Stars Was Featured in the New York Times!

“LaGuardia High School is usually introduced as the inspiration for the 1980 movie “Fame,” but younger generations might favor more up-to-date references: The New York City arts school’s many alumni include Awkwafina and Ansel Elgort. This year, LaGuardia is taking its “Rising Stars” variety showcase online; so now you can try to spot the next Timothée Chalamet. Premiering June 4; allarts.org

We pride ourselves on the professional quality of our production. However, the incredible caliber of this mostly student-led show is made possible by the support of the LaGuardia community and our friends.

LaGuardia's Auction Was A Huge Success!

Thank you to all of the LaGuardia families who participated in our hugely successful auction.

We raised $58,734!

The auction featured over 160 special items. This year we lowered the starting bid prices on select items so more bidders could enjoy our wonderful Auction. We were thrilled to have so many generous donations including music and dance lessons, exquisite art and jewelry, beautiful destinations, and tickets to SNL and Broadways shows.

Every bid goes directly to support scholarships for SAT/ACT test, support across classes, rehearsals and productions, Senior Dance, afterschool clubs, master classes, internships, Rising Stars production, and so much more.
