Our speakers needed to reschedule, we apologize for the last minute change.

AP-Music Ben Schott will be on hand to answer parent questions about next year's course choices and auditioning for electives. In addition, we will have two guests from the NYC Opera, a singer and member of the orchestra, who will address "Managing Your Health as a Musician." Please come with your questions about building stamina, overuse and injury prevention, the importance of exercise/sleep/diet, etc. or e-mail them to MusicStudioInfo@laguardiahspa.org

Do YOU want to serve on Music Studio Board?

Elections are coming up in June, only two months away! If you are interested in taking more of a role in the Music Studio, please get in touch with any of the Reps (our e-mail addresses are at the end of every newsletter), or send an email to the musicstudioinfo@gmail.com account, and we will get in touch with you.

LaGuardia Concerto Concert - Wednesday, April 13 at 7pm

This year's Concerto Concert features virtuosic violin concertos performed by LaG students, who competed in two rigorous rounds of competition judged by distinguished alumni musicians from the New York Philharmonic, the Metropolitan Opera, and the New York City Ballet. Accompaniment and additional music will be provided by the Senior Orchestra. Please tune in, in person in the Concert Hall or via the livestream, to hear these two artistic and technical sensations! LaGuardia staff and students should see Ms. Teitelbaum in room 237 for tickets beginning Monday, April 11. All others can email bschott@schools.nyc.gov, to request tickets.  Live-streaming information, along with the performance calendar and program, can be accessed using this link https://www.laguardiahs.org/events..

We need volunteers to help at the merch table for this event! Please see the volunteer section below or reach out if you can help!

Music Studio Merch

Looking forward to this week's Concerto, something that hasn't occurred at LaG since before the pandemic began! We will be selling merch pre-performance and at intermission. Still plenty of items available from our collection.

As always, merch like our Music Studio cream tote, can be ordered online. Orders from our online Music Studio Store can be picked up in the main school lobby on Fridays from 3-4:30 pm.

If you have questions or comments, or there is a problem with the store or your order, please email lagmusicstudiostore@gmail.com

Course planning letter

April 11-12 - Current teachers of Music Upper Level Courses will host a 30 min zoom meeting the afternoon/evenings . At the meeting students will learn more about the course, learn about the selection criteria, what will occur during the audition (if an audition is required) and be able to ask questions. This document has been updated with a schedule and zoom links.

Senior families, last week Dr. Stricklin sent out information about Prom and Graduation. Prom will be on June 18th and Graduation is June 21. Please check your email/pupilpath account for more details.

Show your Appreciation

We hope you caught at least one performance of The Pirates of Penzance. What terrific performances! What a fabulous production!

Now it's time for us to pay our share of the bills: for electricians, carpentry, seamstresses, audio engineering, props and costumes, choreography, hair and make-up expertise, prop-master services, and meals on black-out days and between performances for the entire cast, pit, and crew--150 people in total!

Going forward, we are likely to pay for additional live-streaming of our students' concerts, in-school master classes, Show Choir expenses, and other items this Spring. If you are able, the Music Studio would greatly appreciate your donation. LaGuardia PA Music Studio is a 501(c)(3) organization, so your donation is tax-deductible.

You can make a one-time donation or set up a recurring monthly donation - whichever works better for you - to the Music Studio (and the PA) through PayPal. To do so, click the Direct Donation link below or follow these instructions:

Log into your MTK account, click on Ways to Give under the Donate & Volunteer drop-down menu, then on the underlined red link Donate to a specific studio (2 places on the page allow you to do that). The PayPal page that appears is auto-filled to make a donation to the General PA, but you can designate the Music Studio by clicking on the drop-down menu. Below that box is the option to make your donation a monthly-recurring one. Or, by leaving that box unchecked, the donation will be a one-time donation.

You can select any amount you like to donate; all contributions gratefully received!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

We have 7 upcoming concerts in the next month! We will need help with merchandise sales - setup, selling before the show and during intermission, and break down. Volunteering is a great way to meet people and learn more about Music Studio affairs. Become a volunteer today to support our students and staff all year long, not just at performances. Please make sure you have filled out your volunteer questionnaire on your Membership Toolkit profile.

Fiorello Friday

While Fiorello Fridays have happened all school year and have been a tradition at LaGuardia for many years, some families may not know about it. Every Friday, while students enter the building in the morning, select students or classes perform in the lobby. This is a great way for students to start their day, either by performing or viewing the performances. The Music Studio will post the upcoming week's class/students scheduled to perform at Fiorello Friday (note, they are not always from the Music Studio), so families can get a feel for the variety that LaG offers.

Last week, talented Trumpeters performed energizing music to wake up students of LaGuardia as they entered the building.

We are not in school this Friday, but stay tuned for entertainment when we return after the break!
