February 28, 2022
Message from the Reps

Welcome back from the mid-winter break Music Studio families!

One more round of congratulations to everyone who worked on the All School Musical (All Shook Up)!  Hopefully everyone was able to show support for the pit band, which is comprised of Music Studio students under the baton of LaG jazz band director Kevin Blancq.

A big cheer also goes to the Music Studio students in the cast - Aaron Miguel Syi, Kalhea Hsu, Jaxon Ackerman, Avery Palmer, Savanna Alvira, Camille Henri, Carter Van Vliet, Ani Kabillio, and Nigel Swinson. The 8 Music students in the Ensemble are Ciara Bawar, Michael Breslin, Suleila Clarke, Samantha Kaplan, Preston Martin, Benjamin Niewood, Alyssa Rouchon, and Dalisha Severino. Congrats to all participants!

Don't Forget!

March 1: General PA meeting at 6 pm

In honor of Women's History Month, the PA welcomes four female LaGuardia club leaders to join us and share their work and goals. They will be hearing from the Women's Empowerment, LaG (YN), Saving Mothers and Room to Read clubs.

In addition, there will be Spanish-, Mandarin- and Russian-speaking interpreters at the meeting.

Click here for the agenda, here for minutes from the February General PA Meeting, and here for the PA's February financial report.

March 1: Music Studio meeting at 7:15 pm

Allison Kleiman will be in attendance. She will focus on how LaG's Guidance department supports students and families from 9th-12th grade with post-secondary decisions, esp. but not limited to college and conservatory applications. Music AP Ben Schott will also join us, and augment with where Music faculty fit into this process. Victor Clark, a new music studio teacher, will also be in attendance to introduce himself to families. We ask that any questions you have for Allison or Ben be submitted ahead of time through this form.

Teacher Spotlight
Victor Clark

Victor Clark is a new teacher in the Vocal department within the Music Studio. Mr. Clark is not only an excellent bass vocalist, but he also plays piano. His musical expertise has allowed the department to expand class offerings like Piano for Singers and Career Preparation. He also teaches Voice for Sophomores and Juniors.

Victor is originally from Atlanta, GA, but has lived in NYC for almost 20 years. He attended Shorter University, Mannes Conservatory, and City College of New York.  Mr. Clark has been teaching music for 20 years. He has also maintained a performance career throughout the years and sings often in the New York area. During his summers, he spends time singing in Europe, mainly in Germany.  Victor enjoys both Opera and Pop music. He is also a big sci-fi fan! Mr. Clark has always been interested in helping young people be the best they can be. He loves the kindness and talent of LaG students. Each day, he is amazed by their joyous spirit.

Blurb from Ben

Show your Appreciation

We hope you have been enjoying all the Music Studio performances so far this year! The Winter concerts, and upcoming Pirates of Penzance opera, are all Music Studio shows. While these performances remain free, they come with significant costs. Please show your thanks for all the hard work these students put in by donating to the Music Studio.

We are always accepting donations for the 2021-2022 school year. (LaGuardia PA Music Studio is a 501(c)(3) organization). As noted at our last meeting, we are well behind last years donation numbers. If you are able, the Music Studio would greatly appreciate your donation.

If making a one time donation isn't feasible, you can set up a recurring monthly donation to the Music Studio (and the PA) through PayPal. To do so, click the Direct Donation link below or follow these instructions:

Log into your MTK account, click on Ways to Give under the Donate & Volunteer drop-down menu, then on the underlined red link Donate to a specific studio (2 places on the page allow you to do that). The PayPal page that appears is auto-filled to make a donation to the General PA, but you can designate the Music Studio by clicking on the drop-down menu. Below that box is the option to make your donation a monthly-recurring one. Or, by leaving that box unchecked, the donation will be a one-time donation.

You can select any amount you like to donate; all contributions gratefully received!
