The New York City Opera was founded in the 1940's by then mayor Fiorello LaGuardia. These days, the director of the NYC Opera is Michael Capasso, a Music Studio parent. Michael has brought in NYCO musicians for master classes and helped find venues for outside performances for LaG students. The NYC Opera has teamed up with NYTF to present the world premier of a new American opera, The Garden of The Finzi-Continis. This opera tells the story of an aristocratic Italian-Jewish family who believe they are immune to change on the eve of World War II.
